BROWNFIELDS PROJECT
A Brownfields site is defined
as an abandoned, idle, or under-used
industrial or commercial facility
where expansion or redevelopment
is complicated by real or perceived environmental contamination.
The goal of the EPA grant is
to identify and address environmental
contamination issues so that
Brownfields properties can be
readied for reuse and redevelopment.
For the property to be eligible
for remediation grant funding,
there can be no financially viable
responsible party connected to
the Brownfields site.
EPA has selected the City of
San Bernardino for two Brownfields
assessment grants. Hazardous
Substances grant funds will be
used to conduct up to 6 Phase-I
and 2 Phase-II Environmental
Site Assessments. Petroleum grant
funds will be used to conduct
up to 10 Phase-I and 3 Phase-II
environmental site assessments.
Grant funds will also be used
to develop an inventory of sites
and support community outreach
activities
EDA is currently soliciting
sites to include in this grant
funded program, and is accepting
public comment
and site nominations for Brownfields sites within
the grant’s pre-defined
study area of
the City until 4:00 p.m. Friday,
September 12, 2008.
